Green Concrete Countertops?
March 30, 2009
CONCRETE — A “GREEN” BUILDING ALTERNATIVE
Making concrete countertops and surfaces locally is a sustainable and green alternative. Compare the carbon footprint of concrete to granite which is quarried in Italy, hauled to China to be polished, then shipped to the United states, and finally trucked to a person’s residence. The materials in concrete are typically all harvested within a local 100 mile radius of a person’s home. Additionally, if a different finishing is preferred in the future, resurfacing can be an effective solution during a remodel avoiding a tear out and eliminating landfill waste. And, if removal is necessary, concrete is a recyclable material.

Epoxy Decorative and Waterproof Floor Coatings

Another advantage of decorative epoxy coatings and overlays is that they’re waterproof. So, for instance, if you have a multi-level home, surfacing your bath or laundry room with a seamless waterproof overlay material will create not only a solid durable decorative surface but eliminate the huge potential mess or damage from water seeping below the surface or to lower level floors in the event of minor unexpected “floods” or overflows.

Decorative Concrete Stamping for Repairs
March 1, 2009
You’ve probably thought of stamped concrete for new concrete only, but actually, decorative concrete resurfacing is excellent for concrete driveway, patio or sidewalk repairs for a traditional gray surface or decorative design.

Decorative Stamped Concrete Driveway
Splatter textures and knockdown finishes are perhaps the most widely installed applications primarily due to the combination of versatility in color and pattern.
Ideal for commercial and residential applications such as driveways, parking garages, sidewalks, patios and especially pool decks, splatter textures and knockdown finishes also offer the added bonus of providing safe skid resistance where chance of rain or sprinklers is applicable.

Three Stamped Concrete Patterns
Achieved with Elite Crete THIN-FINISH™, splatter textures and knockdown finishes were originally designed and engineered to restore surface deteriorated and stained concrete surfaces with a new, yet skid resistant finish, thus eliminating the cost, hassle and downtime of tearing out and replacing the existing concrete substrate.
Because THIN-FINISH™ is an engineered, polymer modified cementitious coating, it is actually stronger and more durable than conventional concrete applications, making it the ideal surface for virtually all concrete.

Random slate pattern
Popular patterns are achieved by using THIN-FINISH™ in conjunction with QUICK-PATTERN™ stencils. Available in numerous styles, these stencils offer the unique look that homeowners and architects are looking for.
